jupiter transiting leo and evolutionary astrology
Jupiter transiting Leo can bring a powerful period of expansion, self-expression, creativity, and personal growth. In evolutionary astrology, this transit can also highlight patterns that are ready to evolve, especially around confidence, visibility, purpose, and the courage to become more fully ourselves.
I think that because of Jupiter in Leo, and because this is the year of the Fire Horse, I’ve been doing a lot of charts for Leos. Not just for people with their Sun in Leo, but for people with stelliums—groups of planets—in Leo. I am one of them.
I have the Sun, Mercury, and Pluto in Leo, all on or near my Leo Ascendant. My chart is ruled by the Sun because of my Ascendant alone, and with so much Leo energy, the Sun is further accentuated. I have done a lot of shining in my life, but there are other elements in my chart that suggest profound transformation through deep emotional pain. This transformation has tempered what could otherwise have been an overwhelming or overbearing expression of the Sun’s energy.
As I explored the evolutionary patterns in my chart and tried to integrate what I was seeing with my Enneagram type, I found some interesting themes. There is a great deal of big, expressive Leo energy, yet the Sun is in the 12th house, which tends to subdue or internalize whatever is placed there. My Moon is in Scorpio in the 4th house, square Pluto in the 1st house. This suggests emotional trauma and profound transformation connected to the home of childhood, as well as the home I create now. It adds a deep emotional intensity to my experience. As this pattern evolves, however, it can become empathy and compassion.
My North Node is in Libra in the 3rd house, suggesting a past-life pattern of pleasing others, placing great importance on what others think and say, and suppressing my own beliefs and thoughts. This past-life pattern would have influenced me in this current life, at least initially. I came in knowing how to please others and how to be diplomatic in order to avoid discomfort or conflict.
The growth here has been learning to stand firmly in my own beliefs and my own knowing—to integrate my natural diplomatic communication skills with the courage to speak my truth. The North Node in the 9th house speaks to becoming a teacher or philosopher: someone who takes in many theories and perspectives and ultimately has the integrity to say, “This is what I think. This is what I believe.”
In the Enneagram system, I identify as a Social 2 with a 3 wing. I can see this reflected in what I have just described. Enneatype 2 is a heart-centered type with an outward-moving energy. The Social 2 subtype, combined with the 3 wing, carries a more ambitious and expressive quality. This fits with all of the Sun energy in my chart, as well as the expressive nature of Leo.
The Moon energy also helps explain the empathy and compassion that can emerge as the 2 evolves. The Libra South Node in the 3rd house carries a similar energy to the Social 2: an awareness of others, an instinct to connect, and a tendency to place importance on relationships and social harmony.
I am still growing into all of this.
The experience of Jupiter transiting Leo can be especially significant for people with strong Leo placements. Jupiter tends to amplify whatever it touches, so this transit may bring greater awareness to the ways we express ourselves, seek recognition, develop confidence, and step into our personal power. From an evolutionary astrology perspective, that expansion can also reveal where we are being asked to grow beyond familiar patterns.
Right now, Jupiter in Leo is helping. Jupiter is known to be expansive and growth-oriented. In order to grow, we must let go of old restrictions and make space for new growth to manifest. I am right in the middle of this process.
For me, Jupiter transiting Leo feels like an invitation to embrace growth without losing the depth and self-awareness that have come from everything I have experienced. Evolution isn't about becoming someone entirely different. It is about becoming more fully who we are.
